40mcube supports groups of people – associations, companies, communities, individuals – who wish to order a work of art from an artist. 40mcube coordinates the various stages of the commission, helps to draw up specifications, proposes an artist, helps to find funding, and ensures the production and installation of the work.
The Cultural Directorate of Ille-et-Vilaine Department's is composed of three services: the cultural action service, the departmental media library and the archives and heritage directorate. It brings together 86 agents with a variety of missions, some of which are little visible or unknown.
The commissioning of a work responds to the wish of a group of federated agents, to a common project, to these three services and to the desire to affirm common values. Through this project, the sponsors want to share with all the agents a reflection around a better visibility and legibility of the Cultural Directorate.
On the advice of 40mcube, this commission was entrusted to Guillaume Pinard. The agents welcomed the artist into their services to explain to him the nature of their work and to show him around their working environment. After this immersion, Guillaume Pinard produced nearly 300 drawings ranging from irony to benevolence, from futile to serious, and which are as many humorous proposals for fun and debate within the services.
The artist has made a selection of 163 drawings among the 300 made. Sous réserve takes the prolific form of various editions, posters, books and notepads which the agents freely appropriate and which are spontaneously disseminated within the Cultural Directorate, but also in the other services of the General Council.
